Steve Patfield

I’m delighted to be nominated and happy to share a little about myself. I’m Chief Actuary for Hiscox Lloyd’s Syndicates, with experience across our Bermuda and Guernsey entities for added challenge and variety. My career spans multiple Chief Actuary roles, starting in fast-moving greenfield operations where I built functions from scratch, gaining hands-on experience in reserving, pricing, capital, risk, and stakeholder management. These roles taught me both technical and communication skills, alongside invaluable lessons from inspiring leaders.

I’ve worked as a regulator and consultant, but company life is where I thrive. At Hiscox, I enjoy the creativity and diversity I’ve always sought, and I hope I’ve helped develop great people along the way—a trait I value most. I’m proud to have co-won the Brian Hey Prize in 2023.

My mantra: keep asking questions, challenge yourself, stay calm, and invest in people for the best rewards. Thank you for the nomination.
