Kartina Tahir Thomson

Portfolio Non-Executive Director and IFoA Immediate Past President

Kartina brings over 25 years of diverse actuarial and commercial experience. Her prior experience includes the Bank of England, a Big-Four audit firm, global insurance carriers, and brokers. Kartina is a portfolio Non-Executive Director, with broad experience in FTSE-listed companies, insurance companies and fintech firms. Her most recent Executive role saw her leading a global proposition on risk, regulation and governance.

Kartina holds leadership positions in the actuarial profession in the UK and globally. She is the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) Immediate Past President, and served on the IFoA Council for eight years. Her consistent focus was to ensure a sustainable future for the next generation of actuaries. She is also a member of the International Actuarial Association (IAA) Council and the Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE) Membre Titulaire in the General Assembly.

Kartina is passionate about inclusion, social mobility, and education, which she has channelled through her role as the inaugural Chair of the IFoA Foundation, the charitable arm of the IFoA, and now its Patron. She mobilised the charity to make a remarkable impact on the future actuaries and the wider actuarial community.
