Jonathan Birtwisle

I’m traditionally a Life Actuary but have spent the past 6 months in a placement in General Insurance as part of a Future Talent rotational scheme. I joined what was Friends Life (now Aviva) in the Bristol office in 2015, after graduating from the University of Plymouth with a first class Mathematics and Statistics BSc.

Within this placement I’ve refined the calculation of cashflow patterns used in quarterly reporting, amongst a range of other smaller projects. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the contrast between UK Life and General Insurance and appreciate the opportunities that Aviva have been able to provide in my career to date.

Outside of work I like to challenge myself in different areas, from playing drums in a (relatively unsuccessful) band, to learning to speak Spanish (132 day streak on Duolingo), to running in a variety of events to raise money for the WWF and other charities. “
