Ali Muhammed
I’m Ali, and for my sins, I hold a Lloyd’s Syndicate Actuary practising certificate – which apparently means I now spend my time explaining to people why their reserves are wrong.
After a decade at Deloitte focusing on independent reserve reviews, transformations, and in-house support, I joined Hymans Robertson to build a new GI practice from scratch. I lead the London Market focus and have somehow convinced a few brilliant people to join me on this unique and oddly enjoyable journey.
Outside client work, I do my best to contribute to the profession – sitting on the GILL Committee (overseeing CPD, including GIRO) and the Actuarial Strategy & Development working party, helping shape how actuaries learn and adapt. I also founded an actuarial peer group to encourage cross-market collaboration. In addition, I’m an IFoA examiner, support reflective practice discussions, and run reserving training sessions – the most rewarding part of what I do.
At home, I’m ruled by two daughters. When they allow me, I play squash and dream of being an astronaut – or, failing that, a part-time teacher.
